Day 2 at EL CAP

Today I got to sit in on a meeting with a consultant who is helping my mentor start his business. we discussed mainly the website (elcapinc.com) and edited it down to a fraction of what it was. I am learning a lot about advertising in newspapers and online in various publications.

After our three hour meeting, we went back to the "world head quarters" as we call it and my mentor gave me some financial numbers to crunch. As he started telling me what he wanted to do I quickly realized that I knew what he was talking about and had no trouble doing it. I thought back to my financial management class and remembered Dr. J explaining these same types of problems and five min later I was able to give my mentor the answers.

I am looking forward to next week when we finally finish the website and hopefully have some ads in place.

  1. Glad to see you got an internship, sounds like an interesting. Esp. because your mentor is starting his own business. It must be good experience working with someone who is starting their own business. Are you liking it? And it's always good when you can remember financial management skills.

  2. Hey Matt,

That's great that you finally found an interesting internship that you're having a good time with. It's always comforting to know that you are familiar with the content and material you are working with. For me, I walked into an internship that I really knew nothing about. But it's been a fun challenge to tackle the objectives I have.

It's always really cool that you get to work with an entrepreneur. You'll get to experience directly the obstacles and challenges that an entrepreneur faces on a daily basis and I hope it prepares you for when it's your turn to do something like this.

Like Chelsea said, it's also a good thing that you can apply concepts and ideas that you've learned here at Champlain to what you are doing at work. I've been able to do the same thing and it makes my work experience a lot easier and comfortable.
